Clarinet Section’s Guide for New Marchers
* Marching Band is supposed to be fun! We have fun while we
work. But we need your full participation to make this year a fun and
successful one!
* Sectionals are MANDATORY. If you are going on a family
vacation, or have a previous obligation you just CAN’T get out of, contact one
of the section leaders.
* If you: have to miss a sectional, need a ride to a
sectional, or are going to be late to a sectional, you NEED to give a section
leader a call to let them know.
* Tennis shoes will be your best friend this summer. Tennis
shoes are required at ALL sectionals. Not only are they more comfortable, but
they are needed for learning how to march. And marching is not easy in flip
flops or bare feet.
* Bring a pencil, your music, a stand (or lyre), and your
clarinet to every sectional!
* You will need to memorize your music this season. An easy
way to do this is to start practicing right away at home and see how much of
the music you know without looking at it. Look at the music again, and try
playing again. This seems to be fairly effective.
* Your music should be in a flip folder, and you need a lyre
for when we will be learning drill and playing on the field.
* You will need a binder with protective covers for drill. We
will go over drill at sectionals and home and away camp.
* It’s going to be a hot, hot, HOT summer, so make sure you
have a water bottle with you at all times. (This goes for camps and
sectionals).
* While section hang out activities are not mandatory, we
highly recommend you to attend them; a close section is a happy section! :)
* Like we said before, it’s going to be a hot summer. If
you’re feeling weak or faint from the heat, LET US KNOW! We don’t want anyone
fainting or getting hurt for trying to participate. We’d rather you be safe
than unconscious.
* If any of you are having trouble with ANYTHING; Music,
marching, school, family...Let us know! If it’s affecting your performance, of
course we care. But, we also want to make sure you’re okay emotionally. We’ve
all been there. Don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice. :)
And above all... HAVE FUN! :)
